Dating back thousands of years, today's little outing was a walk through Tiananmen Square to The Forbidden City.
The architecture was absolutely awe inspiring, with constant work to restore it. The buildings each hold their own significance which is depicted with the imagery on the roof.
In its full use, the last Emperor left in 1911, there were 300,000 people resident here. This included 9000 servants and 3000 concubines for the Emperor's personal 'use'.
The city is absolutely huge and we spent a good couple of hours walking through the lanes and rooms displaying each dynasties treasures. You can continue up the hill to the city park.... but by this point the heat was getting to us and the day had been slow going.
Time for a cold shower and then off to dinner.... tonight we are going with Yak :)
